The Kansas City Chiefs will soon be featured in an ESPN Original Series, which will be a multi-part docuseries that explores the franchise's history and has unprecedented access to the team's 2024 season.
The program will be six episodes and will premiere later this year on ESPN and Disney+. It will be directed by Kristen Lappas of Words + Pictures, and produced by much of the team behind “The Last Dance,” a hit docuseries featuring NBA legend Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
Burke Magnus, who is the president of content for ESPN, released this statement:
“ESPN and Disney+ know that sports fans are interested in stories that take them beyond the X’s and O’s, and this series will explore the legacy of the Chiefs franchise while also showcasing the emotional highs and lows of building a championship-winning team. From the brilliance of Patrick Mahomes to the leadership of Andy Reid and the passion of Chiefs Kingdom, this project will showcase the drama, intensity, and heart that make this team a global phenomenon.”
The series promises stories told from Chiefs players, coaches, and executives, who camera crews followed around both on and off the field during the 2024 season. It will also feature rarely seen photo and video archives throughout the team's 65-year history.
This is a huge honor for the Chiefs organization. Not just any franchise receives these types of in-depth documentaries from a major media outlet like ESPN. These are the type of rewards teams get when they go on historic runs and build a dynasty like Kansas City has done over the past six years.
It will be very interesting to see how the Chiefs delt with the numerous amount of injuries they suffered, but still managing to win 15 games. Watching them endure their loss in Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles could be tough, but we'll likely see some raw and candid reactions to it.
