Following Sunday's action during Week 7, the Cincinnati Bengals were deemed six-point underdogs to the San Francisco 49ers ahead of their Week 8 matchup.

The 49ers have since lost a football game and, very likely, quarterback Brock Purdy for this week. The odds have reflected that.

San Francisco remains the home favorite, but Cincinnati is now just a 3-point underdog to the once 5-0 powerhouse in a venue they've yet to lose in over the last 365+ days.

If you've already placed a bet on the Bengals when they were 6-point dogs, you've got a pretty good chance at covering that spread. The spread initially dropped down to 5.5 following the Niners' 22-17 loss on Monday Night Football vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

Should Purdy miss Sunday's matchup, backup Sam Darnold is set to take his place under center. Darnold's first and last game against the Bengals was all the way back in 2019 when he was in his second year with the New York Jets. Head coach Zac Taylor got his first victory in Cincinnati as the Bengals handled Darnold and the Jets with ease, 22-6.

Purdy's an undefeated 10-0 at home in his short NFL career, and the Bengals are 2-5 all-time on the road against the 49ers. They did win in their last meeting in Santa Clara, and that was with AJ McCarron starting in place for an injured Andy Dalton.

The line shouldn't significantly move any more now that the Purdy news is out there. If he somehow passes through the protocol prior to Sunday, the spread may start favoring the 49ers more. Any more movement towards the Bengals would indicate an influx of tickets placed on them.
