An ugly second half for the Cincinnati Bengals nearly cost them big time as they eeked out a 17-13 win over to the Seattle Seahawks, and enter the bye week at 3-3. But there's a potentially large issue looming over their win.
Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. missed most of the second half as his groin injury from Week 4 popped up again and sidelined him.
It was unclear when Brown's injury recurred, but it was clearly enough to keep him out for the remainder of a close game.
Signed in March to a four-year, $64 million contract, Brown became the offense's franchise left tackle this offseason. He's been extremely durable in his career and has not missed a game in his career.
Thankfully, the Bengals have an extra week for Brown to rest his groin and fix some of their offensive issues they incurred after he exited the game. Cincinnati score just three points and allowed the same number of sacks in the final 30 minutes against Seattle.
It was an entirely different story for the defense. After giving up a long touchdown drive to start the afternoon, Lou Anarumo's settled in and held the Seahawks' playmakers in check. The Bengals intercepted Geno Smith twice, once in the red zone, and sacked him four times. It was their pressure that ultimately sealed the victory on fourth down with less than a minute remaining, causing Smith to throw the ball away in a collapsed pocked.
The Bengals secured the win, but have much left to correct after the bye.
