Tee Higgins became the top receiving target for the Cincinnati Bengals once Ja'Marr Chase went down with a hip issue. He responded with 257 yards in three games without Chase and was ranked as one of the better receivers in the NFL recently by Pro Football Focus because of it.
As the Bengals set to take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Higgins had a chance to once again show that he can answer the bell when called upon, and the former second-round pick delivered, again.
Higgins caught seven of his nine targets, and his 114 yards gave him his second consecutive game over the century mark. However, it was one reception in particular that made Bengals' fans explode with joy.
The Bengals and Titans were in a 13-13 tie with just over a minute gone by in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Joe Burrow took advantage of rookie cornerback Roger McCreary lining up in man coverage and gave Higgins the perfect pass to high-point and haul in his fourth touchdown of the season.
Higgins wasn't done with his heroics, though.
Cincinnati had possession with just over three minutes to play, and they were clinging to a four-point lead. On a 2nd and 10 for the Titans' 41, Higgins once again elevated to high-point a pass for 29 yards, this time near the sideline which put him over 100 yards.
The score by Higgins ended up being the game-winner and further cemented his spot among the NFL's best pass catchers. Higgins spoke about his huge play with the media and mentioned that what he did wasn't a surprise to him.
“I want those (big moments),” Higgins said. “I come into the game wanting those. Just by them calling my number, I expect to make that play and it’s my job to go do it.”
Once Chase returns, the Bengals' offense will be more lethal. Until that happens, they have a great safety net with Higgins to carry the load as the top threat through the air.
