Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was left off a former NFL MVP's bizarre list this week.

Free agent quarterback Cam Newton, the NFL MVP in 2015 and the No. 1 overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, is trying to land a job in the NFL.

On Wednesday evening, Newton put out a video that lists the 12 quarterbacks that he'd be willing to back up.

Newton's list included a wide range of quarterbacks, from a future Hall of Famer in Aaron Rodgers to a boom-or-bust rookie in Florida's Anthony Richardson.

Here's the full list, which doesn't include Burrow.

Newton didn't give specific reasons for listing each quarterback, though he noted with the younger quarterbacks that his mission would be to serve as a mentor.

As for guys like Rodgers, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts — established stars who aren't in danger of being benched — well, I'm not sure where Newton's head is at with listing those names.

In the video, Newton claims all he cares about is winning — whether that's as a starter or as a backup.

If that's the case, then leaving Burrow and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — arguably the top two quarterbacks in the NFL — off his list is quite puzzling.

Maybe Newton thinks he can take a job from an aging Rodgers or a still-young Hurts/Allen. And maybe he sees the path to taking the job from Mahomes and Burrow as impossible (it pretty much would be impossible).

You never know when it comes to Cam. His services aren't in high demand right now, so he shouldn't be too picky (several of the quarterbacks he listed, like Hurts, already have a backup quarterback in place, by the way).

It's not like the Bengals would need/want Newton in Cincinnati, but it's still bizarre to see Burrow left off the former NFL MVP's list of quarterbacks that he'd be willing to back up.
