The Cincinnati Bengals don't have mandating minicamp but they're still busy at work preparing for what they hope to be another deep playoff run in 2023.
This is a good opportunity for guys that might be lower on the depth chart to show what they can do, especially if another player goes down. Well, tight end Tanner Hudson, a former two-time All-American at Southern Arkansas who the Bengals signed to their practice squad last December, got a chance to step up on Tuesday.
Due to long snapper Cal Adomitis having a boot on his foot, Hudson took reps in his place and did a good job from what was reported.
Adomitis was picked up by the Bengals as an undrafted free agent last year and played in 15 games and logged 128 snaps.
Hudson went undrafted as well in 2018 before he was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played three seasons there but only amassed 5 receptions for 67 yards in 20 games.
After appearing in just two games and coming up blank on the stat sheet for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, Hudson spent most of last season with the New York Giants. He was a depth piece but managed to rack up 10 receptions for 132 yards.
This may not be what Hudson had in mind as far as getting an opportunity to get some reps. But in the NFL, a player should take every chance they get to showcase what they can do like Hudson is.
