Rested and ready
The bye came at an ideal time for the Bengals. Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins, Orlando Brown Jr., and Chidobe Awuzie needed the time off to further recover from their respective injuries, and Zac Taylor's offensive coaching staff needed the break to reassess how to make the offense work. There will be no grace period to get this thing off the ground as the 49ers are winners of 17 of their last 18 games in Santa Clara. Nut up or shut up.
3 Bengals players to watch
- WR Ja'Marr Chase: Who's more about that action than 7/11? The Bengals' best offensive player by far from the first six games is on a franchise record pace the way he keeps catching everything thrown at him. Chase has experience torching Charvarius Ward in the past, as well as torching the 49ers in general. Cincinnati needs Uno to play like himself today.
- ED Trey Hendrickson: It's unclear wether or not Trent Williams will play in this game. If the best left tackle in the sport does not suit up, it will greatly benefit Hendrickson's day attacking Brock Purdy in the pocket. The two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher is on a career pace in terms of sacks, and is pressuring quarterbacks at his standard rate. That needs to be the case for the Bengals to pull out a win.
- LB Logan Wilson: One of Cincinnati's best did not suit up the last time these two played against one another. Wilson's presence will matter greatly in terms of defending Christian McCaffrey out of the backfield and Purdy's rhythm throws over the middle.
