The Cincinnati Bengals will not have two of their best players on the field this week against the Houston Texans.
Head coach Zac Taylor told media members Friday afternoon that wide receiver Tee Higgins and edge defender Sam Hubbard are not playing Sunday.
This was the expected outcome for both players. Higgins suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday's practice and has not practiced since. Hubbard was out for all three of Cincinnati's practices this week with his ankle injury.
Higgins missing this week would be especially troubling if Ja'Marr Chase won't play. Chase injured his back last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills and missed Wednesday's practice because of it. Chase would practice both Thursday and Friday, and Taylor unofficially labeled his star wideout as a game-time decision.
The same goes for fellow receiver Charlie Jones, who's missed the last five games with a thumb injury. Jones was designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list this week and has not missed any practice since, but he'll still need to be officially activated off I.R. to play. That decision could come tomorrow.
Defensive tackle Josh Tupou (shoulder) may also be a game-time decision, but any time a player is listed as "doubtful," you can safely assume he's not playing. We'll know officially come Sunday morning when the inactives list drops.
