A greatly needed week off for the Cincinnati Bengals is in the books, but injuries are still at the forefront of concerns for the 3-3 team.
Starting left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., who suffered a groin injury earlier in the season and missed over half of the Bengals' Week 6 win over the Seattle Seahawks, is not practicing in the team's first practice of the week.
Following last week's win, head coach Zac Taylor didn't make any declarations regarding Brown's injury other than they'd "see where he's at" this week. Brown has been an ironman for his entire career and has not missed a game since Week 17 of the 2021 season when he, coincidentally, would've played against the Bengals for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brown is not the only player to not practice Monday. Linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither, who's been sidelined since Week 4 with a knee injury, remains out and figures to miss this week as well unless his recovery timeline changes drastically.
On a more positive note, starting WR Tee Higgins (rib) and CB Chidobe Awuzie (back) each practiced Monday. Both players gutted out performances last week despite playing through pain, as it was obvious neither of them were 100%.
After practice, Brown revealed that he intended to sit out Monday to get a full two days off before practice resumes Wednesday, which is a great sign towards him playing Sunday.
Rookie punt returner and slot receiver Charlie Jones (thumb) was also partaking in drills at practice. Jones was placed on Injured Reserve leading up to Week 4 and is eligible to be activated starting next week.
Bengals down Seahawks, but lose Orlando Brown Jr. to injury
An important situation to monitor.
