Drafting in the top 20 picks gives the Cincinnati Bengals a greater chance at selecting one of this year's best prospects compared to the last two years.
Former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers certainly fits that description. Bowers is viewed as a top-10 player by A to Z Sports' James Foster, but positional value or his lack of preferred size could have him sliding down to the Bengals' 18th overall pick.
One of the more prominent NFL Draft experts seems to think this is what Cincinnati is hoping for.
NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah took to X/Twitter in answering NFL Draft questions Sunday evening, and had a crafty response to a question asking what the Bengals' plans are.
Jeremiah posted a gif of WWE legend Brock Lesner, which has everyone equating it to meaning the tight end with the same first name.
The Bengals have been known to lock in on certain players early in the draft process. They were preparing to take Joe Burrow with the first overall pick months prior to the 2020 draft, and were focusing on both Ja'Marr Chase and Penei Sewell with the fifth overall pick in 2021.
A pick in the top five and just inside the top 20, however, are very different. The Bengals can't possibly know at this moment if Bowers is indeed going to be available that late in the first round.
Jeremiah is as plugged in as anyone is from a league-wide basis, but this may be more projection on his part than anything. Bowers would fit very well with the Bengals, whom desperately need a difference-making tight end. He's just 21 years old and has two years of fantastic production at one of the best programs in the country.
Everything about his profile matches what the Bengals would be looking for. But if they're planning on taking him, they absolutely need a backup plan or several.
