There was major NFL news on Monday and it could impact the Cincinnati Bengals in a negative way.
The Denver Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett on Monday after less than a year on the job.
Hackett went 4-11 through 15 games for the Broncos this season. He also seemingly lost control of the team, which is a main reason why he's not getting another year to prove himself in Denver.
The Broncos obviously need a new head coach and a Bengals assistant could be a name to watch.
Cincinnati offensive coordinator Brian Callahan is expected to be a top head coaching option this offseason thanks to the Bengals' success over the last two seasons.
It's far too early to know exactly who Denver will target, but it's worth noting that Callahan interviewed with the Broncos last offseason before they hired Hackett.
Callahan should probably hold out for a better situation — Denver is a mess right now — but if he's offered the job, it could be tough to pass up.
If Callahan ends up landing a head coaching job this offseason, the Bengals would be wise to pursue Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Joe Brady to replace him.
Brady was the passing game coordinator at LSU in 2019 when Joe Burrow had possibly the greatest season ever by a college quarterback. Brady's influence was a big reason why LSU's offense performed at an elite level in 2019.
