Cleveland Browns sign former AFC North running back as Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned while he deals with legal situation
An addition for the Browns while they still don’t have their second-round pick signed.
The Cleveland Browns made multiple roster moves to start the week as they prepare for their first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Friday.
One of the moves was the signing of tight end Mitch Van Vooren, which coincided with the team waiving offensive tackle Julian Pearl. However, the second signing is a bit more notable.
Cleveland Browns Sign Former Bengals RB Trayveon Williams as Quinshon Judkins Remains Unsigned
The Browns added running back Trayveon Williams along with Van Vooren, which was first reported by Aaron Wilson. Not only does Judkins remain unsigned and away from the team, but Pierre Strong also did not practice on Monday. Cleveland has yet to sign their second-round pick who was arrested in Florida last month on a domestic violence charge. With Jerome Ford and rookie Dylan Sampson currently serving as the top two backs on the depth chart, Toa Taua is the only other healthy running back on the roster.
Signing Williams makes sense, as the Browns likely won’t risk playing Ford much if at all in the preseason opener, especially with Judkins still unsigned.
Williams most recently spent time with the New England Patriots this offseason. He previously appeared in 68 games over six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. A sixth-round pick out of Texas A&M in the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams brings experience and depth to the backfield for Cleveland.
The 5-foot-8, 206-pound running back has 62 career carries for 307 yards, though he has yet to score his first NFL touchdown.
It’s unclear how long Williams will remain with the Browns, but he should be available for Friday’s preseason game at the very least.
