It was only a matter of time before it happened due to the preseason struggles, The Cleveland Browns are moving on from K Cade York.

AtoZ can confirm the Browns have placed York on waivers following a trade for K Dustin Hopkins from the Los Angeles Chargers.

York missed a field goal in each of the three preseason games and went 4-for-8 overall. The Browns couldn’t allow a kicker to hurt them with the improvements they made to the roster, so they acquired Hopkins.

By sending a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Chargers, the Browns acquired a player who has been more accurate than their recent kickers. Last season, Hopkins was 9-for-10 on field goals in five games. In his career, he’s made 85 percent of his field goals and 94 percent of his extra-point kicks.

To compare, York made 75 percent of his field goals as a rookie with the Browns last season.

In a move that had to be made, Cleveland admitted it was a mistake to draft York by waiving him. Now, they hope to have fixed that mistake.
