Back when the Cleveland Browns traded for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, they envisioned a plan for him to be the future No. 1 wide receiver for the team. He is becoming just that and his game against his old team on Monday night was the biggest example.

Jeudy caught nine passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in his return to Denver to play the Broncos. Cleveland traded fourth and fifth-round picks last offseason for Jeudy, who is a player that the Browns wanted for quite some time.

With Jeudy in the fourth year of his rookie deal, the Browns handed him a new contract when they traded for him. It was a three-year deal worth $52.5 million with $41 million guaranteed. Many folks believed that the Browns had overpaid him with the $17.5 million per year number.

Cleveland opted to pay Jeudy early because they believed that the contract would eventually look like a steal. It was the same approach that they took with tight end David Njoku, who was paid a bit early. Since trading Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills, Jeudy has been unlocked in a big way. The star wideout is up to 880 receiving yards and three touchdowns and is well on his way to recording his first 1,000-yard season.

A few wide receivers that are making more than $17.5 million this season; Christian Kirk, Diontae Johnson, Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Calvin Ridley, and Stefon Diggs. Jeudy is simply a better player at this point in his career than a few of the players named.

It would not be a surprise if Jeudy was to go over 1,200 yards this season, which would surely grab him his Pro Bowl nod. General manager Andrew Berry deserves credit for making this trade for Jeudy and then giving him a contract that is a bargain.

Cleveland is in a lost season, however, players like Jeudy evolving is a small win that the Browns can take away from this year.
