The Indianapolis Colts hit the road a bit early for their preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens this week. The game isn’t until Thursday night, but the two teams began competing in a scheduled joint practice session on Tuesday.

It feels like joint practices are always a hotbed for fights to break out, and that was the case on Tuesday. According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, a brawl broke out during a special team drill, resulting in a Ravens player being ejected from practice.

While members of the Colts were involved, it was a Ravens player who was tossed from practice, CB Nate Wiggins. Wiggins is entering his second season in the NFL after being drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He appeared in 15 games and logged six starts as a rookie and is now expected to play a key role in the Ravens’ secondary in year two. He wasn’t actually even on the field when the play that led to the altercation happened; he was on the sideline. When the brawl broke out, Wiggins reportedly left the sideline to get involved, and the Ravens’ coaching staff seemed displeased with that choice, ultimately ending his practice day short.

Training camp fights are not a new concept for the Colts; it has become an almost yearly occurrence at this point. Some players who often find themselves in practice fights against not just other teams but also their own teammates include Colts captains Michael Pittman Jr. and Zaire Franklin. Joint practices always up the intensity as teams are eager to compete against other teams during the early stages of training camp. With their joint practice now finished, the Colts and Ravens will now prepare for their preseason matchup that kicks off Thursday night.
