12 Dallas Cowboys free agents remain unsigned, but only a few are worth re-signing
The Dallas Cowboys’ free agency class isn’t getting a lot of traction in the open market.
I don’t think anyone is surprised considering this year’s class, but Dallas Cowboys free agents have had a tough time finding new teams.
Currently, only two players from the Cowboys’ free agents class have landed on new teams: WR Jalen Tolbert (Miami Dolphins) and S Juanyeh Thomas (Indianapolis Colts). The rest have either found their way back to the Cowboys or remain unsigned.
To be specific, 12 of them are still looking for an NFL team ahead of the 2026 season. And out of those 12, I think only three are worth re-signing for Dallas. Let’s start with someone who the Cowboys seem to have moved on from, but that could make sense.
OL Brock Hoffman
At worst, Hoffman is a high-end backup who can play center and guard. But I wouldn’t hesitate to argue he’s starting-caliber. And surprisingly, he remains unsigned.
Earlier in the offseason, reports suggested Hoffman was signing with Mike McCarthy’s Pittsburgh Steelers but that deal seems to have fallen off. His agency explained after initial reports that all options were being considered.
Now, the tricky part here is the Cowboys have seemingly made their choice. Had they wanted to, they could have signed Brock Hoffman to a second-round tender like they did T.J. Bass for $5.8 million, but didn’t.
My theory? They liked Bass more at guard, specifically. And they needed an insurance policy in case Tyler Smith does switch to tackle.
But say Hoffman’s taste of free agency doesn’t go as planned and the Cowboys can sign him for less than the tender’s value. They shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger to upgrade the depth of the OL.
EDGE Jadeveon Clowney
When the season ended, the Cowboys appeared intent on bringing Clowney back. However, since the hiring of Christian Parker as defensive coordinator, things have changed—presumably because of scheme fit.
But there’s no denying Clowney was a big upgrade last year at edge rusher. In 13 games, he piled up 8.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. If the price is right, the Cowboys should consider bringing him in even as a rotational defender.
CB C.J. Goodwin (specialist)
This one comes with a grain of salt. The Cowboys decided to keep special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen but openly admitted his unit needs to be better in 2026. For a long time, Goodwin has been the Cowboys’ special teams ace, fulfilling a bunch of different roles without contributing on defense nor offense.
At 36 years old, I believe his best football is behind him. And in 2025, he didn’t do enough to be worth a roster spot for only special teams. This is to say, I think Goodwin needs to fight for his spot on the team this offseason.
But you can surely bring him back for a minimum deal for the offseason and see if he’s got anything left in the tank.
Other unsigned Cowboys free agents
Note: For the purposes of this article, I’m not counting Logan Wilson (LB) and Perrion Winfrey (DT) since they were released earlier this offseason instead of becoming free agents through expiring contracts.

- EDGE Dante Fowler Jr.
- RG Robert Jones
- EDGE Payton Turner
