Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb remains a training camp holdout as of the time of this writing while his team prepares to face the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday's preseason opener.
But on Thursday evening, he took to social media to post for the first time since July 8th on Twitter/X.
Lamb's message was a cryptic one, as he posted "8/8," likely referring simply to the date and also, to his jersey number, 88.
Naturally, Cowboys Nation on X went into a frenzy reacting to the tweet from Lamb, speculating on if there was any meaning behind the post. After all, Lamb rarely shows himself in that specific social media platform, with his last tweets being in July, a retweet from March, and another tweet in January 7th responding to Dez Bryant.
The tweet could mean something happened or it could mean Lamb was bored and thought he'd tease fans a little. The truth is there's no way to tell. Even still, the reactions were inevitable:

Cowboys recently made a new offer to CeeDee Lamb
On July 27th, the Cowboys revealed they had just sent a new contract offer to the wide receiver and many expected things to ramp up before the preseason. With a deal between the Minnesota Vikings and Justin Jefferson already in place, one would've assumed it would be an easy process between the two sides but if any momentum has been gained, it sure has been pretty silent and has happened behind the scenes.
Update: From cryptic to no-so cryptic
Interestingly enough, the same day of Lamb's tweet, Jerry Jones claimed he was in no rush to get the deal done, which doesn't exactly inspire thoughts of "progress" or "momentum."
CeeDee Lamb had a follow-up tweet to Jones' quotes mentioned above, further raising the level of concern from fans and media. Lamb quoted the tweet with "lol." Micah Parsons would go on to retweet it.
For now, though, Lamb is staying ready for the regular season, claiming that he wants a deal that "just has to make sense."
It's up to the Cowboys and the agents to figure out what's the number that makes sense for both parties.
