Dak Prescott and teammate ease Cowboys fans' pain amid CeeDee Lamb's holdout with highlight play
The Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener is only three days away from kicking off and All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has yet to report amid contract negotiations with the front office. The situation is obviously unfortunate and fans remain worried about how long the contract drama will go on for.
At the end of the day, even if Lamb is right to seek a new deal and use his leverage, him being absent from training camp isn't exactly fun.
Fortunately for the fan base, Dak Prescott and his wide receivers are making the most of it as the MVP runner-up quarterback is spreading the ball around in practice among veteran Brandin Cooks and the younger wideouts, including Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, Tyron Billy-Johnson, and others.
Although his spot as WR2 is secured and he isn't lacking experience, Cooks being the top receiver on offense right now is a big deal: It took Prescott and him a good while to finally be on the same page in 2023, the veteran receiver's first on the Cowboys.
It wasn't until halfway through the season that Dak began connecting with Cooks consistently and even then the chemistry could've been much better when both were producing big numbers together.
That's why on Thursday's joint practice with the Rams, a particular highlight throw between No. 4 and No. 3 stood out. Prescott threw a laser dot in a tight window to Cooks, whose hands reeled it in with ease despite sticky coverage from the defender.
What made the play even more impressive was Dak's pass protection adjustment right before the play, as he communicated with center Brock Hoffman pre-snap. A linebacker ends up blitzing on a stunt with the defensive lineman and with him on his face, the quarterback delivers the ball with deadly accuracy.
Everyone wants Lamb back on the field, and that includes Prescott and Cooks. However, the Cowboys are making the most out of Lamb's absence in the meantime.
