Before the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons away to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday evening, the superstar defender tried to bridge the gap one last time ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

According to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, Parsons “says he and his team went back to the Cowboys about an extension with ’empathy’ when the trade interest was leaked this week. The Cowboys response according to Parsons was ‘play on the 5th year or leave.”

The shocking detail makes the trade even more painful for Cowboys fans who are still stunned by the news. To hear Parsons tried to bridge the gap even after trade rumors were leaked and was met with such a stance from Dallas is as disappointing as it gets. It’s proof Jerry Jones failed to follow his own infamous advice: He let his money get mad.

The Cowboys’ compensation for Parsons does nothing for the team’s chances in 2025. Though Kenny Clark is a solid defensive tackle, the defense is not getting better after losing one of the most talented players in years.

Dallas won’t benefit from the Packers’ first-round draft picks until 2026 and later 2027. Even then, they are unlikely to be premium picks as Green Bay is expected to be a serious contender following Parsons’ arrival.

It’s going to be hard to convince Cowboys fans years from now that the front office was right to send Parsons packing (no pun intended) after the defender tried to mend the relationship days away from the start of the 2025 NFL season.
