The Dallas Cowboys announced their inactive players for their Week 5 matchup against the New York Jets and as expected, it’s a list loaded with starters. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer described the team as “banged up” heading into Sunday and the list reflects it.

All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith is notably absent from the inactives list, meaning he will suit up despite being listed as questionable on the Cowboys’ final injury report. Smith, however, isn’t expected to play. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Smith is “only expected to play today in case of emergency.” Hakeem Adeniji will start in his place.

As a result of the news, the Cowboys will be down to one starter on the offensive line (right tackle Terence Steele). Left tackle Tyler Guyton is inactive after being ruled out Friday, right guard Tyler Booker will miss his second consecutive game, and center Cooper Beebe remains on Injured Reserve.

Last weekend, Schottenheimer’s gameplan combined with Prescott’s work getting rid of the football quickly kept the Green Bay Packers’ pass rush at bay. This week, the offense will need a similar response to fend off a desperate New York Jets defense trying to win its first game of the season. But make no mistake about it: The Cowboys’ chances of winning the game took a major hit with the injury update. It’s tough to win in the NFL down four starters in the offensive line in addition to absences like CeeDee Lamb’s, among others.

Full list of Cowboys inactives

  • WR CeeDee Lamb
  • RG Tyler Booker
  • OT Tyler Guyton
  • WR KaVontae Turpin
  • DT Jay Toia
  • DE Marshawn Kneeland
  • RB Miles Sanders

Jaydon Blue finally gets NFL debut and other notes from Cowboys’ Week 5 inactives

  • Fifth-round rookie running back Jaydon Blue will make his NFL debut after being a healthy scratch four consecutive weeks. Schottenheimer told reporters he’s been consistent as of late. Blue could play at running back and even kick returner with KaVontae Turpin ruled out.
  • Speaking of wide receivers, Turpin and CeeDee Lamb are out. The Cowboys elevated receivers Jalen Cropper and Jalen Brooks from the practice squad.
  • A good thing about Lamb and Booker being on the inactives list: It means the Cowboys haven’t placed them on Injured Reserve, meaning the team hopes they could realistically return within the next two weeks.
  • Starting safety Malik Hooker was placed on Injured Reserve Saturday and thus is not among the inactive players. He will miss a minimum of four games.
