With Super Bowl LIX in the rearview mirror, the NFL Draft season is kicking into high gear, and with the way the Dallas Cowboys approach team building, it's unlikely there will be a more important day for the front office to upgrade the roster in 2025.
Our wonderful staff at A to Z Sports has been putting out plenty of mock drafts every week, and I rounded up the latest picks simulated for the Cowboys, most of which agree on who Dallas will be picking at 12th overall.
But there's one that breaks the mold. Let's dive in.
Ashton Jeanty mania: Cowboys pick star RB in 3 mocks
When I first set out to put together this roundup, I didn't expect for three different mocks to have Jeanty going to the Cowboys. It might be a boring pick in that sense but it will be controversial if it happens.
Recently, The Athletic's Dane Brugler said if the Cowboys pass on Jeanty at No. 12, it's hard to envision him going in the Top 20.
Well, it's safe to say our draft team doesn't expect that to happen. Below are the excerpts from three mocks that have Jeanty heading to Dallas:
Is there any other pick for a Jerry Jones team than Jeanty? He fits the profile of what Jones like in a first-round pick: glamorous and talented. – Tyler Forness
This is the perfect spot for Ashton Jeanty–the easy RB1 coming off a 2700+ yard season–to thrive. The Cowboys have a decent offensive line, but need a do-it-all feature back who can add value as a receiver on top of proving to be efficient in the run game. Jeanty would easily be in line for nearly 300 touches as a rookie if he lands with Dallas. – Travis May
The Cowboys have made it abundantly clear they want more out of their run game in 2025, and they've hired the right personnel to get that. Now, the goal should be to improve the talent of the offense to achieve that. Taking one of the best players in this class in Ashton Jeanty would be a big step in fixing their offense for next season. – AJ Schulte
A wide receiver!
In a collective mock draft where multiple writers took turns making picks for each NFL team, Rob Gregson passed on RB Ashton Jeanty in favor of WR Tetairoa McMillan, an explosive playmaker from Arizona.
If it was up to me, I'd make this pick over Jeanty. Despite Brian Schottenheimer being clear about his desire to run the damn ball, WR2 could be the Cowboys' top need this offseason. CeeDee Lamb was the only genuine threat on the field in 2024 and it showed. Brandin Cooks is a pending free agent and I'd consider him unlikely to come back.
Brandin Cooks continues to make plays in his 30s but moving him to the slot and putting a big play threat like Tetairoa McMillan alongside CeeDee Lamb helps a pedestrian offense get more explosive. – Rob Gregson
Just for fun: Cowboys' 2026 mock draft pick
It's some sicko behavior to put together a 2026 NFL mock draft but fortunately, we have one of those in college football managing editor Travis May.
Anthony Hill Jr. won Freshman All-American honors in 2023 and only leveled up from there in 2024. He'll enter 2025 as one of the favorites to win the Butkus Award for the nation's best linebacker who can do it all. The Cowboys already need better linebacker play right now, but unless they address something soon, the position might be priority number one in 2026 and Micah Parsons has already said he wants to play with Hill. – Travis May
