Micah Parsons wasn’t the only former Dallas Cowboys player who lit it up for his new NFL team in Week 1

You know about Micah Parsons’ debut for the Green Bay Packers. But two other former Cowboys had a great Sunday.

No one should be surprised at Micah Parsons being one of the biggest stories in the NFL in Week 1. After all, he’s a vocal superstar defender who was drafted by the most covered team in the league to a rising Super Bowl contender days before the regular season. It was always a storyline destined to be scrutinized by everyone in football. It only helped that he had three impactful pressures in limited playing time.

However, he wasn’t the only former Dallas Cowboys player to light it up for his new team in Week 1. In fact, two more defenders who not long ago rocked The Star on their helmets had standout performances on Sunday: Nickel cornerback Jourdan Lewis (Jacksonville Jaguars) and defensive end Dorance Armstrong (Washington Commanders).

Jourdan Lewis reminds Cowboys of what they lost

Though the Parsons saga made it fade quickly in the back of everyone’s minds, losing Lewis in free agency was a tough blow for the Cowboys. Sunday was a reminder of it as the veteran cornerback piled up remarkable stats in his Jaguars debut:

  • 5 tackles
  • 1 quarterback hit
  • 1 interception
  • 3 pass deflections
  • 1 fumble recovery

Lewis became one of the highest-paid nickel cornerbacks in the NFL earlier this offseason and for good reason. He’s sticky in coverage and a physical tackler versus the run. The Cowboys will miss him for the rest of the 2025 NFL season. At least they have DaRon Bland back inside as long as the team’s cornerback unit remains healthy.

But I don’t intend to make this a “too bad they didn’t re-sign him!” type of post. Instead, I just want to say it’s difficult to not be happy for Lewis. He’s passionate about football and has proven to be someone willing to fight for his team. I hope this was only the first of many successful outings for him.

Armstrong goes off on the Giants and provides Cowboys with hope

According to NextGen Stats, former Cowboys defensive end Dorance Armstrong had nine pressures for the Washington Commanders on Sunday. He made the most of a banged-up New York Giants offensive line, who started James Hudson III at left tackle over an injured Andrew Thomas.

It was a career-high for the division rival but it helps the Cowboys in an obvious way: The Giants are set to play in Dallas next Sunday. Unless Thomas comes back from injury, it’s easy to know what the weak link of New York’s offensive line is.

Even without Micah Parsons, the Cowboys should be able to capitalize off of it.
