For those who have been paying attention, it should come as no surprise. Superstar defender Micah Parsons will attend the Dallas Cowboys' mandatory minicamp next week even without a deal in place.
That's at least, if you believe him. He will be there, per a message he posted on social media in an attempt to shoot down any speculation surrounding his participation. So far, he has kept his word by being around the team all offseason long, despite being absent for most of OTAs.
"I will be there! I haven’t missed a mini camp in 4 years!," wrote Parsons in a social media post on Tuesday. "Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook ! I’m preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it’s in the owner’s hands. I’m ready to win a Super Bowl!"
Indeed, Parsons has never missed minicamp. But it's also true he had never been in the middle of contract negotiations which could end with him signing for a deal worth over $200 million. It's not hard to see why people are wondering about whether he'll be there or not.
"I would assume (he's attending)," Schottenheimer told reporters earlier in the week. "Micah and I talked a couple of days ago, again, he's doing a little bit of traveling. But everything that he and I have talked about, I expect for him to be there."
Since last year, Parsons made sure to control the narrative surrounding his negotiations with the Cowboys. Early in the offseason, he told the media he wouldn't hold out. He actively talked about getting a deal done early so the front office could be more proactive in free agency.
And yes, he's missed OTAs. But he was a part of the Cowboys' schedule release marketing campaign. On Tuesday, he showed up to team picture day at The Star. Coaches and executives have confirmed he's in constant contact with the coaching staff and teammates.
This isn't a holdout. According to Parsons, it won't become one.
