‘That’s an absurd level of arrogance’ – Prominent national media outlet just went scorched earth on the Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are hearing plenty of noise this offseason.
The Denver Broncos are hearing some noise due to their inactivity during the first wave of NFL free agency.
Denver, so far, hasn’t signed an outside free agent, despite entering the offseason needing to add a playmaker.
There’s still plenty of time to make a splash — former Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib hinted this week that a big move is on the way — but Denver, for now, is hearing some criticism from the national media for their lack of urgency in free agency.
CBS Sports goes scorched earth on the Denver Broncos
CBS Sports graded each NFL team’s offseason moves that have been made over the last week and they were quite critical of the Broncos, giving Denver’s offseason a “D+”.
“The Denver Broncos are the only team in the NFL that have yet to sign an external free agent,” wrote CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell. “That’s an absurd level of arrogance. Yes, the Broncos were nearly the champions of the AFC, but they don’t have the offensive firepower as of yet to break through to the Super Bowl.”
“The decision to essentially eschew free agency entirely while still having quarterback Bo Nix on his rookie deal reeks of hubris and lunacy,” added Podell. “The only reason the Broncos don’t have an F grade is because they avoided creating too many holes by retaining a good chunk of talent.”
That’s a much different take than The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue had this week on the Broncos’ offseason.
“A team that has so far signed zero external free agents this spring is in this category,” wrote Rodrigue. “They did agree to terms with their own players — 13 of them, through the first few days of free agency. The Broncos are here because of their roster completeness, from their top defense and offensive line to the continued emergence of quarterback Bo Nix (when healthy), and because their roster floor is so high, even with needs such as defensive line depth. They have also openly called their shot: that they like their developing players more than whoever was available in free agency. The Broncos act as though they belong in this bucket. We’ll see if it works out for them.”
Denver clearly likes the roster they finished the 2025 season with.
And that’s not arrogance, that’s confidence.
