Not much has gone right for the Denver Broncos to start the 2023 NFL season.

The injury situation has gotten out of hand early. Miscues on both offense and defense have been getting in the way of success. They've even had to deal with blown calls in key situations

All-in-all Sean Payton's team is sitting at 0-2 after matchups with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Commanders. They're staring 0-3 in the face with a road game against the Miami Dolphins on deck.

Is there a silver lining for Broncos fans to hang their hats on? Our friends at Sports Illustrated believe that rookie WR Marvin Mims Jr. might be that lone bright spot. He's on the rise in their weekly rookie stock watch.

Mims Jr. barely played in Denver’s season-opening loss to the Raiders, but he made his presence felt early and often against the Commanders.

The second-round pick lit up Washington for a pair of deep-ball receptions, hauling in two catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Mims also provided punch in the return game with a 45-yard jaunt on a Tress Way punt.

The Broncos are 0–2 and headed to Miami, but Mims is a bright spot.

Mims Jr. was the eighth receiver drafted in 2023 and he's proving that teams passed over him were wrong for doing so. Of receivers drafted before him, only Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers have more receiving yards through two games. He's done more with fewer receptions too, given that he only has four catches on the season compared to a combined 20 catches from Flowers and Addison.

The only receiver that can claim to be a better bang for his buck is Los Angeles Rams rookie WR Puka Nacua, who has 266 yards on 25 receptions this season.

Mims Jr. will look to continue stretching the field for Denver as they seek their first win of the 2023 NFL season.
