Patrick Surtain subtly throws shade at Eagles star A.J. Brown ahead of the Broncos’ highly-anticipated Week 5 showdown
Patrick Surtain left nothing to the imagination.
The Denver Broncos got back in the win column after a convincing win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4. The victory was short-lived, though, as head coach Sean Payton told reporters immediately after the game that the focus is now on the Philadelphia Eagles.
For the Broncos, they’ll be taking on the reigning Super Bowl champs, who also happen to be undefeated through the first four games of the NFL season. Payton and company are hoping to walk into Philadelphia and put an end to that.
Ahead of the contest, superstar cornerback Patrick Surtain II threw a little bit of shade at Eagles receiver A.J. Brown, adding even more fuel to the highly anticipated matchup. He was respectful, but he hopes that Brown doesn’t have a big day when lining up against him.
“If they are frustrated, shoot, let them be frustrated,” Surtain said. “But I know they’re going to figure it out for sure. I mean, obviously, you know he’s a great player, so I know they’re gonna give him the ball, they’re going to fix it. But not next week.”
Patrick Surtain has been dominating in 2025
The entire Denver defense deserves its flowers for what it’s been able to accomplish through the early stages of the season. Not without their faults, but it looks as dominant as it did last season, and a large part of that is because of the work Surtain does in the defensive backfield.
In the victory over the Bengals, Surtain essentially eliminated receiver Ja’Marr Chase from the contest, which wasn’t too different from what Surtain did in Week 1 against Calvin Ridley.
Surtain and the Broncos’ defense held Chase to only 31 yards. Across coverage matchups, Surtain allowed 0 receptions on 10 matchups and has held Chase to four receptions for 35 yards in 54 career routes. Put plainly, Surtain is a gamebreaker in the backfield, and he hopes that continues in the game against the Eagles.
It’s not just Surtain, either, as Denver finds itself once again leading the league in sacks through just four weeks, with no signs of slowing down.
A little banter ahead of the contest adds even more intrigue to the matchup, and Broncos Country is hoping Surtain follows through with yet another incredible performance.
