Detroit Lions Mailbag: What would it cost to pry Maxx Crosby away from the Raiders?

Welcome to Week 4 of the Detroit Lions mailbag. We've got a lot of questions, let's jump right in.

I got this question a lot this week. A loss to the Panthers will make that happen I guess. I don't think that the Raiders would trade Crosby unless he really wanted to get out. But if they did, the Lions are one of the teams that could afford to make the deal.

What would it cost in trade value? The closest thing to a move like this would be the Khalil Mack trade from a few years back. The Raiders are going to want multiple picks out of this. Probably multiple first round picks and more.

I think a day will come when the Lions are apt to make a big swing like this, I just don't think that is going to be this year. They'll likely make a swing at the trade deadline, but not one this big.

It's possible, but I think the Lions look at Ukwu as a more of a 2025 thing than a 2024 thing. The likely move they make is slide Levi Onwuzurkie over to the edge more and give Josh Paschal a lot as well. They may even make James Houston active. Would love to see Ukwu get some regular season snaps this year, but I just don't think it happens.

Never say never in the NFL, but I don't see this one at all. Not just for the Lions, but for any team. Watt hasn't played football since 2022 and he's got a really good gig working on TV. Lots of guys say this kind of stuff. He'll probably just stay where he's at.

Even if it did happen, a lot of the time would likely be spent on Watt getting back into NFL shape on the Lions roster before they finally make him active.

I do. This would be the time to do it. The Lions only have one more elevation for Patrick. It's clear they want to do something with him since he's playing 30 or more snaps a game. Why not just get it out of the way now? The only other player I could think they'd move up now is Pat O'Connor. Dan Campbell talked about the Lions needing him sooner than later on Monday.

Creative adjustments have to be the key. The Lions have a lot of trouble coming out of the half and it's usually because they continue with business as usual. If the Lions threw some different stuff out there in the third quarter, it could be different. They're usually pretty decent in the fourth quarter. Let's see where things go the rest of the year.

Most games in the NFL are won by a touchdown or less. Believe me, I would love to see the Lions go out there and handle a team and they will at some point this year, but until then if you want to win, you're going to have to be the team that puts out that little extra.

There's no doubt that Ragnow is the glue that holds the offensive line together, but the Lions have a solid plan to make this work over the next few weeks. They'll move Graham Glasgow over to center and then put either Kayode Awosika or Michael Niese in at guard. Awosika might be the better option since he's starting with the Lions more.

Wait till 2028.
