The pain is over. The Detroit Lions have finally buried their demons and beat the Seattle Seahawks in a very fun 42-29 win at Ford Field. Here's our 10 biggest takeaways.
Goff Report
Jared Goff is the story of the game here. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to end game with a 100% completion percentage. It's never been done. The closest that any quarterback has ever come was Drew Brees with a 96.7% game in 2019.
There's some dispute over whether or not there were other guys to do it, but Pro Football Reference is recognizing no player going back to 1933.
Goff finished the night going 18-18 for 292 yards, two touchdowns passes and a touchdown catch. What a night.
Never stop running
The Lions once again came out and established the run early. They ended the first half with 88 yards and three touchdowns between David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Lions did start to slow down in the second half, but they finished the night with 116 yards and the three touchdowns. Good stuff
Aaron Glenn and the Defense
The defense didn't beat the hell out of the Seahawks, but they got it done when they needed to. They got a goal line stand in the fourth quarter and then picked off Geno Smith on the next drive. That's good enough to finally say that Aaron Glenn has figured out how to stop this team.
Jack can punch
This was a big moment in this game. The Seahawks were moving down field and could have scored on this drive had Campbell not made the heads up play and punched the ball out. This set up the Lions first post turnover touchdown of the year. They really needed to get that particular problem off their back.
Awosika
The Lions came into this game missing their All-Pro center Frank Ragnow. This meant the Lions would have to move their left guard Graham Glasgow to center and put in Kayode Awosika.
Awosika had a pretty good night and some of his blocking allowed for big plays and touchdowns,
Edge help needed, apply within
If you're an edge rusher and your name isn't Aidan Hutchinson, you struggled on Monday night. Josh Paschal had a hard time and got some penalties called on him, James Houston got thrown to the ground on one play and then lined up offsides on the next one. Then he had another offsides later. The Lions losing Marcus Davenport is an issue they need to start thinking about fixing soon.
Tim Patrick
This was the first time we got to see Patrick worked into the offense a little more and he had a good game with two big catches for 52-yards. It was a Josh Reynolds like night. If he can keep doing this, the Lions are going to be in really good shape.
Jamo is a bad motha…
Shut your mouth. Seriously, when this guy is targeted and gets the ball in his hands, you know that you're about see something fun. His 70-yard catch and run to the house was that and more. Of course he got called for the high stepping, but who cares? That was awesome.
Calvin Johnson
Johnson went into the Pride of the Lions during halftime. I only got to cover Johnson for a season and a half, but it was an absolute pleasure to cover him and watch him as a fan as well. One of the greatest to ever do it without question.
Terrion Arnold needs to come off the bench
I wrote about it earlier this week and everyone thought I was crazy or was a casual or what have you. Then Arnold went out and committed three more big penalties that set the Seahawks up with first downs. He needs to be backed down or spend the next week working on how he can stop this. I know Lions fans don't want to believe it, but he's hurting the team right now.
