Lions emerge as one of the betting favorites to land Rams receiver Cooper Kupp, here's what a trade proposal could look like for the Lions

All the talk about the Detroit Lions and the trade deadline has been rightly centered around the Lions trading for an edge rusher. We don't quite know which one that will be at this time, but it feels like it's inevitable. With that in mind, it's crazy that now the Lions are being lumped into the conversation on Ram's receiver Cooper Kupp.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the Rams have been calling teams to see if they're interested in trading for the All-Pro receiver. It's not out of the realm of possibility that the Lions were one of the teams that the Rams called. Considering Rams GM Les Snead worked hand in hand with both Brad Holmes and Lions assistant GM Ray Agnew.

Couple that with the impending Jameson Williams suspension and you can totally understand why SportsBetting.ag has the Lions as one of the favorites to land Kupp in a trade.

The Steelers are the odds on favorite, but after that it's pretty tight with the Lions, Chargers and Bucs.

So what is the asking price on this move? Much like the Raiders did with Davante Adams, the Rams want a second-round pick. Much like the Raiders, the Rams aren't going to get it.

Kupp was by far and away the best receiver in the league in 2021. He came very close to beating Calvin Johnson's record for most yards in a season. But since then he has been oft injured and has come nowhere close to replicating that 2021 season. He's missed 17 games in the last three years.

Still, there's a rapport there with Jared Goff that makes this whole thing quite interesting and he does have an affordable contract. If the Lions were going to do something like this, here's what the offer should be.

Lions get: Cooper Kupp
Rams get: 2026 conditional fourth-round pick. The condition is that this pick will turn into a third-round pick if Kupp is able to meet some criteria when it comes to injuries.

That's the safest offer there is if you ask me. The Rams don't quite get what they want, but they get something pretty close to it if everything works out.

With all that said, I don't see any way the Lions would make a trade for Kupp. They have arguably the best slot receiver in the game right now and while Kupp and can play outside too, that's just not where he's at his best. Couple that with Jameson Williams and Tim Patrick having solid years and it just doesn't make sense for the Lions at this time.
