The Detroit Lions are back on Sunday when they take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. That means the Lions’ Saturday roster moves are also back. The Lions made three moves ahead of their Week 1 game. Here’s what they did:
Add OT Jamarco Jones in Reserve/Injured
Welp, Jones will be out for at least four weeks now. The Lions may look to add Dan Skipper to the 53-man roster at some point to give some help at the swing tackle spot that Giovanni Manu may not be ready for just yet. At this point, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see the Lions be on the lookout for a tackle in the next week.
Elevated LB Anthony Pittman from the practice squad
With Trevor Nowaske out, it makes sense that the Lions would elevate Pittman to take his spot on special teams. The good news is this is where Pittman thrives the most. There’s a reason Pittman has been with this team so long, and there’s a reason why, for at least part of the offseason, we considered that the Lions might value him being on the 53-man roster over Nowaske.
Signed RB Jacob Saylors to 53-man roster
This is a bit surprising since the Lions still have Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, and Craig Reynolds on the roster, but Detroit wants four running backs in this one. Saylors will get a chance to show what he can do after being a strong part of the group in training camp and the preseason.
He earned the spot on the practice squad, and now he can show if he can earn a bigger spot someday. This move also points to Sione Vaki potentially being out for longer than initially thought.

It’s over; we no longer have to talk about Za’Darius Smith potentially returning to the Detroit Lions because he has now signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m sure that there will be some Lions fans who are upset about this, and they won’t want to hear it today, but the Lions made the right move […]
