The Detroit Lions will take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, and before they got on the plane to go to Kansas City, the Lions made a few roster adjustments. Here’s what they did:

Signed S Erick Hallett, DL Quinton Jefferson, and CB Nick Whiteside to the active roster from the practice squad

Hallet has been with the Lions since last season, and we’ve seen him in the preseason, but he’s never played a regular-season game before. With Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch being game-time decisions, this seems like a precautionary move to get ready for that.

Whiteside had a nice summer for the Lions, and there was a widely held belief that he would make the 53-man roster, but that didn’t happen. It was even more interesting that the Lions didn’t initially have him on their practice squad, either. Now, he’s back and Detroit is adding him to the main roster, and Sunday’s game will be his first regular-season game since 2023, when he was with the Commanders.

Quinton Jefferson is a big one because we might see him get some real reps going forward. Nothing crazy, but maybe in the 10-15 range so he can be a good run-stopper and a solid pass rusher. Something he’s shown plenty of in his career.

Elevated CB Arthur Maulet and OL Devin Cochran from the practice Squad to the active/inactive list

This will be an interesting one because, with Avonte Maddox out and Brian Branch potentially out, the Lions are left with Maulet, who just got here on Tuesday, as their starting slot corner. He’s got plenty of experience. He’s been in the league since 2017 and started games in 2023, but this is a crazy turnaround.

Cochran will be Dan Skipper’s backup now that both Taylor Decker and Giovanni Manu will be out for this game.

Placed OL Giovanni Manu on Reserve/Injured

Manu will be out for a while. At least four games as he heads to the IR. At this time, we don’t know what he injury is other than it’s a knee injury.

We’ll keep you updated on that when more information comes in.

Waived OL Kingsley Eguakun and DL Chris Smith

It’s safe to assume both will clear waivers and be brought back to the Lions’ practice squad on Monday or Tuesday.
