Lions reportedly plan to sign Michigan Panthers' offensive lineman that has ties to Lions' offensive line coach

The Detroit Lions made an addition to their offensive line a week ago when they signed Ike Boettger. That wasn't the only offensive line minded thing they doing though. The Lions brought in Michigan Panthers offensive lineman Jake Burton for a workout on the same day and now they plan to sign him.
Burton was a starter at guard for the Panthers all season long and played fairly well doing it. He's previously spent time in the NFL with the Giants in 2021. He also played for the Philadelphia Stars in the USFL for two seasons.
The big thing that connects him to the Lions is that he played for UCLA when Lions' offensive line coach Hank Fraley was the Bruins' offensive line coach. Perhaps Fraley saw something he liked in him back in 2017 and thought it would be nice to get another look at him.
Burton will come in and challenge for a spot on the 53-man roster and will get a chance to play in the preseason. He's someone to keep an eye on when it comes to forming the Lions practice squad. Especially after the team just lost Netane Muti for a while.
