Lions sign Dan Campbell style linebacker that just hit the market that has ties to Detroit's coaching staff after losing Alex Anzalone

Ok, here's the things that we know. The Detroit Lions will be without Alex Anzalone for the remainder of the regular season after he broke his forearm against the Jaguars on Sunday.
The other thing that we know is that the Lions are also without Derrick Barnes for a while too. We don't know when he's coming back, but it hopefully will be this year.
We also know that this team loves to sign linebackers regardless of who's healthy. Since August they've signed Abraham Beauplan, Ty Summers, Cam Gill, DaRon Gilbert, Steele Chambers, Malik Jefferson, Joel Iyiegbuniwie and Ezekiel Turner. That's eight different guys.
While they currently have guys that can move into Anzalone's spot, they want to be deep here. So that's why you can pretty much expect at this point that the Lions are going to be on the lookout for another linebacker this week.
There's one that fits what the Lions like to do and fits the Dan Campbell way that just became available and that's David Long.
Long was waived by the Miami Dolphins last week in what was considered a shocking move by the team. Not only because Long has been a starter for the Dolphins for the past two seasons, but because he was a team captain.
The reason he fits with the Lions so well is because he has been an elite run defender. That is something the Lions are all in about. They badly want teams to not be able to run the ball on them. In the past two seasons Long has posted an 89 and a 93.4 run defense grades per Pro Football Focus.
The other thing is that the whole captain thing is important to the Lions because they want players that fit their culture and here's a guy that's former teammates in Miami believed was a leader for them.
A little bonus is that Long has some connection to the coaching staff. He was in Tennessee with Lions defensive line coach Terrell Williams for four years. Surely Williams would vouge for him.
We'll soon see what the Lions decide to do, but defintley keep an eye on Long this week.
Update: The Lions have signed Long to their practice squad
Two Lions are in line to do the most improbable thing possible and it would be epic if one of them pulls it off
It's genuinely something I never thought I'd talk about here. The Detroit Lions have always had good defensive players and they've had guys that could be in the Defensive Player of the Year discussion, but they were almost always defensive lineman and never guys in the secondary. Even earlier this season the Lions had a […]
