Lions signing former Seahawks starting cornerback after injuries to D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold
Detroit adds some help at cornerback after the injuries
After the Detroit Lions’ win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the Lions walked out of that game with the futures of D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold up in the air. Dan Campbell said Monday that the team would look to free agency to find some cornerback help, and late Tuesday night, they did that.
Lions are signing former Seahawks cornerback Tre Flowers to their practice squad
No, not the guy you’re thinking of, but the same name. This is not Trey Flowers, who the Lions gave a ton of money to a few years back; this is Tre Flowers. The former fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Flowers spent three and a half seasons with the Seahawks and was their starting cornerback during that time. The Seahawks then waived him during the 2021 season due to some struggles on the field. He was claimed by the Bengals and spent a year and a half there. He also spent time with the Falcons, Jaguars, and Colts. Most recently, he was with the Chicago Bears. They released him earlier this season.
Flowers isn’t someone who can come in and start for the Lions. Campbell said the team was looking for someone who could at least help out in practice. There is some upside to him having experience that could potentially see him elevated on game day and get some chances to play for the Lions. The thing that could help him is that he has shown himself to be a solid run defender.
