You hate to see it, but here we are. The Detroit Lions made a roster move ahead of their Thanksgiving day game against the Bears and that moves was waiving former rookie phenom James Houston.
The Lions drafted Houston in the sixth-round of the 2022 NFL Draft and he struggled to initially make the roster and was cut after his first camp. The Lions brought him back on the practice squad and when they got in a pinch he was elevated for Thanksgiving against the Bills and notched two sacks in that game. He had another six sacks that season and everyone knew he was the future.
Unfortunately he struggled to nail down the SAM linebacker spot in all three seasons in Detroit, missed all of 2023 with an injury and then was a healthy scratch or played very little snaps in 2024. The Lions have decided it's time to part ways.
Houston should catch on somewhere this season and I doubt we've seen the last of this player.
