The Detroit Lions made a pretty notable move on Tuesday when they parted ways with James Houston ahead of the Thanksgiving game. The same game he made his debut on two years ago and blew up the world with two of his eight sacks that season.

Unfortunately things went down hill from there instead of uphill and you hate to see it. A season long injury in 2023, his inability to nail down the SAM linebacker role in 2022, 2023 and 2024 along with struggling to stop the run and being a healthy scratch most of the season just did him in.

This seemed like something that has been coming for a while. Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke to local media right after news dropped and gave an explanation as to why the Lions moved on.

"Yeah, it just didn't (work out.) It just didn't, you know, we had James up for a number of games, you know, came back off the injury, got back, and just never quite worked out, you know. And look, wish him the best of luck. And sometimes you just need a fresh start, and this could be great for him, so wish him the best."

There it is. Things just never quite worked out for Houston. He's absolutely right about guys just needing a fresh start for a new team. We've seen it plenty of times before. Expect to see Houston on another team very soon.
