The Lions and the Vikings are in positions to do each other favors again at the 2025 NFL Draft
We've talked a lot about the possibility of the Detroit Lions trading up in the 2025 NFL Draft. We've even specified two trade partners that make a lot of sense for trading in the Arizona Cardinals and the Washington Commanders. We've talked a lot about the possibility of the Detroit Lions trading up in the 2025 NFL Draft. We've even specified two trade partners that make a lot of sense for trading in the Arizona Cardinals and the Washington Commanders. One team that didn't really occur to me is a team the Lions have traded with multiple times, and that's the Minnesota Vikings.
Lions GM Brad Holmes and Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have a good trading relationship right now. They worked together on the T.J. Hockenson deal, which wound up with the Lions getting Terrion Arnold and a few other players and the Vikings getting J.J. McCarthy.
They also worked out the trade that saw the Lions move up to the 12th pick to get Jameson Williams in 2022. Detroit got Josh Paschal out of that as well. The Vikings weren't as lucky with Lewis Cine, but they wound up with a lot of draft picks.
That's something that the Vikings don't have this year, and that's why a trade down with the Lions makes a lot of sense for them. Right now, they have four total picks, and they're all spread out pretty far. They could make this deal with the Lions and help themselves out a little bit.
Lions get: 24th pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick
Vikings get: 28th pick and 102nd pick
In this scenario, the Lions move up four picks and jump two teams who have similar needs to them. The Ravens need a guard and edge, and they could steal one that the Lions really like before Detroit gets the shot to grab them at 28. The Texans could use an offensive lineman or a receiver. The Lions are in on both of those positions.
For the Vikings, they get a fifth draft pick, and from there they could decide to move down again and maybe grab more day two picks, or they could stick at 28. Realistically, they could have a shot at their running back of the future from 24 or 28. It's a win for both teams.
7 players who are mathematically expected to be available for the Lions with the 28th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
The 2025 NFL Draft is just over a week away, and the one thing on every Detroit Lions fan's mind is who is going to be there for the Lions with the 28th pick? We might be able to answer that with math. There have been hundreds and hundreds of mock drafts since the 2024 […]
