Go back 16 months. As soon as the NFL free agent market opened in March, 2024, the Green Bay Packers agreed to sign a four-year, $48 million contract with running back Josh Jacobs. For a few minutes, Packers fans dreamed of a shared backfield between Jacobs and long-time fan favorite Aaron Jones. That feeling didn't take long, though. Minutes after the Jacobs signing report, the Packers released Jones. He ended up going to the Minnesota Vikings.

Bucks make surprising moves in NBA free agency

Wisconsin fans revived that feeling and whirlwind of emoticons on Tuesday, but this time around with the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA. The priority of the Bucks' offseason was to reinforce the roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo. So when ESPN's Shams Charania reported a surprising deal with former Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner, the excitement to root for a team with Giannis, Turner, and Damian Lillard was incredible.

Well, Bucks and general manager Jon Horst had different plans. In order to open the cap space necessary to sign Turner, the Bucks waived Lillard and stretched his contract over the next five years. He had two years and $113 million left on his deal. Now, Lillard will be a free agent.

As you could expect, Packers and Bucks fans went back to that Jacobs/Jones situation from a year ago.

The Bucks gave Myles Turner a four-year, $107 million deal in free agency. Despite trade rumors during the offseason, the most likely scenario is that Giannis won't go anywhere. He's slated to make $54.126 million this upcoming season and $58.456 million in the next one, with a $62.786 million player option for 2027/2028.

Hopefully for the Bucks, though, Lillard won't go to a rival as Jones did—and recovering from his Achilles injury, it's hard to predict a similar impact anyway. Wisconsin fans just expect that Turner can be as impactful for the Bucks as Jacobs has been for the Packers.
