Revelation from Packers’ Christian Watson carries major implications for where he stands ahead of the Bears matchup
Wide receiver Christian Watson is recovering from chest and shoulder injuries in a key week for the Packers.
The Green Bay Packers had Christian Watson back at practice on Wednesday, and it sounds like things were as good as possible in his first activity after suffering a chest/shoulder injury during the Denver Broncos game on Sunday.
After practice, Watson talked to local media and expressed a positive update in regards to his chances of being on the field on Saturday against the Chicago Bears.
“It’s feeling pretty good for everything considered, so I think it’ll be alright for the game,” Watson said. “We’re at the point in the season where you gotta fight through some stuff, so should be good.”
Recovery timeline
Christian Watson didn’t suffer any type of structural damage, so it’s a matter of functionality and pain tolerance. The fact that Watson could return to practice three days before the game is obviously a good indication.
The Packers will badly need Watson on the field. Last Sunday, the offense scored 23 points with Watson on the field, and only three after he left the game. Beyond his individual production, Watson’s ability to stretch the field makes life easier for the rest of the pass-catchers — and as a consequence, for quarterback Jordan Love.
Meanwhile, right tackle Zach Tom didn’t practice. Darian Kinnard, who stepped in on Sunday, and last year’s first-round pick Jordan Morgan practiced at right tackle. On defense, safety Evan Williams should be out for at least one week, and edge rusher Micah Parsons is out for the season with a torn ACL.
It’s a monster game in the NFC North race against the Bears, and Christian Watson’s presence opens the possibility for the offense to put up the points it needs to work around a defense decimated by significant injuries.
Christian Watson returned from his own ACL injury in Week 8. Since then, the wide receiver has played eight games, with 28 receptions for 481 yards and five touchdowns.
