The Green Bay Packers are heading down to the Dirty South in hopes of notching their second win of the season.

The Atlanta Falcons have been one of the NFL's least-impressive teams over the last two years, but there's a different feeling around this year's squad. The defense has been rebuilt and the offense added some key pieces that fit right into what the team likes to do.

Week 2 won't be easy, but it should be fun.

Can the offense move the ball without Aaron Jones and Christian Watson?

Well, it turns out the hamstring that wasn't a big deal is at least a big enough deal to keep Jones out of this week's game.

He didn't practice all week, so it's not like this is a surprise to the Packers, or anything and that's good. They've likely adjusted their game plan throughout the week, but still, not having your best player is never a situation a team wants to be in.

As for Watson, it makes sense to hold him out since Friday was the first practice action he's seen this year. Romeo Doubs is rebounding from his hamstring injury and should see more snaps, but now he'll deal with the likes of A.J. Terrell for most of the game. And while Doubs always loves a good challenge – this matchup won't be easy, at all.

The offense is going to have to lean on the o-line, Doubs, A.J. Dillon and of course, Jordan Love. Keep an eye out for Luke Musgrave in this game, too.

What will the defense look like?

It's been talked about all week long. So, we're going to talk about it one more time. Because that's how important it is.

The Packers defense must stop the run in Atlanta. No, we didn't travel back to the mid-80s where running backs were once kings – the Falcons offense is built off the running game.

If the Packers don't stop the likes of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, then it's going to open up the passing game for Desmond Ridder and co. Sure, Ridder isn't a scary QB to go up against, but Arthur Smith's playcalling will give him every opportunity he needs to make big plays if the ground game is working.

This game is a huge test for Joe Barry and his crew. If they don't get it done then we're looking at the same question we've had ever since his arrival: Why can't a talented defense find a way to get it done at a high level?

3 players to watch (that aren't Jordan Love)

  • TE Luke Musgrave: He was mentioned earlier for a reason. The Falcons ruled out rising linebacker Troy Andersen with a concussion and they gave up five catches for 41-yards and a touchdown to Hayden Hurst in Week 1. With Jones and Watson both out, expect Musgrave to see more than the four targets he saw against the Chicago Bears.
  • LB Quay Walker: He was cleared to play on Saturday, which is/was huge. Walker played really well against the Bears' rushing attack and he obviously had the pick-six. The Packers are going to need his playmaking ability.
  • DL T.J. Slaton: The Packers are going to have to control this game up front. Kenny Clark will do his thing, but Slaton and Devonte Wyatt to need play well like they did last week.
