Live: Watch Micah Parsons’ introductory press conference as the Packers officially unveil their blockbuster trade acquisition
Parsons will talk as a member of the Packers for the first time.
The Green Bay Packers acquired edge defender Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, giving up two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. In addition, the Packers extended Parsons with a four-year, $188 million contract, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
On Friday at 6 p.m. CT, Parsons will address the media in his first press conference as a member of the Packers. General manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur will also be available, according to the Packers’ public relations.
A unique opportunity
Micah Parsons resets the edge market with his $47 million yearly average. He comfortably surpassed Pittsburgh Steelers’ TJ Watt ($41 million) and Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett ($40 million), who had previously signed extensions this offseason.
What Parsons has done so far in the league is truly impressive. He had at least 12 sacks in each of his four seasons, including his rookie year, when he played mostly as an off-ball linebacker. Last season, he had 12 sacks in 13 games. Parsons became the second player in NFL history, after Reggie White, to have four 12-sack seasons to start a career.
It’s not just sack production, though. If you evaluate more advanced stats, the numbers are even more impressive. Throughout his first four NFL seasons, Parsons had 330 pressures—Rashan Gary has had 280 in six seasons. Since 2021, not even Myles Garrett (320), Trey Hendrickson (299), and T.J. Watt (232) have had as many pressures.
He also offers positional and alignment versatility. He’s played 2,522 snaps as a defensive lineman, but also 813 as an off-ball linebacker (including 38 in 2024), and 29 in the slot. Playing close to the line of scrimmage, he’s had 2,420 on the edge, 69 over the tackle, and 33 as an interior rusher.
