Packers add intriguing offensive weapon to complement what they already have in latest 3-round mock draft
Nicholas Singleton has been consistent and productive at Penn State throughout his college career.
It’s usual to see the Green Bay Packers mocked with cornerbacks in draft scenarios. After all, that position is an obvious need. So, it’s not a surprise that A to Z Sports College Football Managing Editor Travis May projected the Packers taking Texas A&M Will Lee III with the 53rd overall pick.
The more curious aspect of May’s three-round mock draft is what comes next.
Packers take a running back in the third round in mock draft
The Packers don’t have a first-round pick after trading for Micah Parsons in August, so the draft capital they do have has to be carefully used. And May thinks the Packers could invest that in the offense — more specifically, the running back position.
In his latest three-round mock draft, May projected Penn State running back Nick Singleton to the Packers with the 85th pick.
Solid scheme fit
Nicholas Singleton seems to be a good fit for the Packers’ zone-blocking style of offense. He was extremely productive in college, surpassing 1,000 scrimmage yards in his first three years.
Penn State had a down year in 2025, though, and Singleton felt it — he had fewer rushing opportunities based on their game situations, but he was still fairly efficient with 4.5 yards per carry and 14 total touchdowns.
Running back situation for the Packers
Starter Josh Jacobs will still be around, entering the third season of the four-year contract he signed in free agency in 2023. Jacobs is still a relatively young player, so there’s not much reason to be concerned.
However, depth at running back may be considered a problem. Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks are good players. Still, both are slated to become restricted free agents next offseason — maybe the Packers will tender and keep one of them, or find a way to keep both, but getting a younger long-term piece at the position is reasonable.
Moreover, the Packers did use a third-round pick on a running back last year. But MarShawn Lloyd has dealt with a crazy amount of injuries throughout his NFL career, and he had only one regular-season game through his first two years.
It’s questionable to spend real draft capital on a non-valuable position for depth, especially considering the Packers’ more pressing needs at cornerback and defensive tackle, for example. But don’t be surprised if general manager Brian Gutekunst takes a shot at it, like he’s already done.
