The Green Bay Packers are already preparing the franchise for 2026 after a somewhat underwhelming year in 2025. The first part of that process is the determination of who will lead and coach the team.

General manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur are entering the final year of their deals, so the parties have to negotiate extension — and that brings layers to the decision, especially in regards to LaFleur.

Meanwhile, Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley departed to become the Miami Dolphins general manager and head coach duo.

Packers staff updates

> The Packers have extended the contracts of head coach Matt LaFleur, general manager Brian Gutekunst, and executive vice president Russ Ball.

> Green Bay hired Jonathan Gannon as its new defensive coordinator. He was a DC for the Eagles and more recently a head coach for the Cardinals.

> The Packers had interviewed Philadelphia Eagles passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Christian Parker, Minnesota Vikings defensive pass game coordinator Daronte Jones, and former Green Bay cornerback and current Chicago Bears DBs coach and passing game coordinator Al Harris.

> The Packers hired former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich as their passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach.

> Green Bay hired Sam Siefkes as its new linebackers coach. A Wisconsin native, he was the Cardinals linebackers coach from 2023 to 2024 and spent last season as a defensive coordinator at Virginia Tech.

Coaching staff subtractions/interviews

> Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as hired as the Miami Dolphins’ head coach. The Packers will immediately start the process to find his successor.

> Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich was under consideration for the Tennessee Titans’ play-calling offensive coordinator job under Robert Saleh, but Brian Daboll got the job.

> Linebackers coach Sean Duggan (defensive coordinator) and defensive backs coach Ryan Downard (passing game coordinator) are following Jeff Hafley to Miami. Defensive quality control coach Wendel Davis goes to Miami too.

> The Packers allowed former passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley to walk after hiring Babich for the same spot.

> Former scouting consultant James Campen is leaving the team. He was hired by his long-time head coach Mike McCarthy as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line coach.

Head coaching interviews/departures

> Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley generated a lot of interest before going to the Dolphins. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, and Dolphins requested interviews with him. However, the New York Giants (a realistic landing spot) decided to hire John Harbaugh.

> Jeff Hafley had a second, in-person interview with the Dolphins, and was already considered a front-runner for the job. Hafley would also have second interviews with the Titans and Raiders, but skipped them to sign in Miami.

> There’s a natural connection between Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley, and our team at A to Z Sports projected Hafley as the favorite to land the job.

Front office interviews/departures

> Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan was hired to be the Miami Dolphins general manager. He had two interviews before making the final decision.

> Pro scout Venzell Boulware left the Packers to join Sullivan in Miami.

Lower-level assistant interviews/departures

> The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets requested to interview Packers defensive line coach/run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington for their defensive coordinator position.

> The Philadelphia Eagles interviewed Packers QBs coach Sean Mannion for their OC position.
