It’s legal tampering period day for those who celebrate. Starting on Monday at 11am CT, teams can start talking to free agents and even agreeing to deals with them, even though contracts can’t be officially signed before Wednesday.
With more than $40 million in available cap space, the Packers will have real money to spend this offseason, even after procedural moves will reduce this amount.
So, we asked smart people who cover the Packers to choose their ideal free agent target. Curiously, all of them chose defensive players—in fairness, it’s a weak offensive free agent class for the most part.
Ken Ingalls, independent cap analyst – CB Paulson Adebo, New Orleans Saints
The Packers have three corners entering unrestricted free agency and Jaire is likely on his way out as well. This leaves only Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine on the roster as the remaining corners with meaningful playing time.
Adebo is young (turns 26 in July), athletic, and talented, and can be the CB1 of the Packers' defense for the foreseeable future. While I expect a pricey deal, Adebo shouldn't reset the market like perhaps we will see with Byron Murphy.
Andy Herman, Pack a Day Podcast – DT Milton Williams, Philadelphia Eagles
If the Packers are set to make a splash free agent signing this offseason — look no further than Milton Williams, the free agent defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles. Williams will be in the prime of his career at age 26 and is just beginning to come into his own as a pass rush force in the NFL.
The cost will be exorbitant but for a premier interior pass rusher who can get to the quarterback in a hurry — it should be worth it for Jeff Hafley's defense. Williams isn't a great run defender, and may need to be weaponized primarily on passing downs, but his age, versatility, production, and scheme fit make him an ideal signing this offseason for Green Bay.
Daire Carragher, Packer Report – EDGE Khalil Mack, Los Angeles Chargers
Not every addition needs to be young! If the Packers can't land a trade for a defensive end, Mack still has one useful season left in the tank and he's hungry for a ring. Mack started every game last year and performed at a borderline elite level in a slightly supplemented role. It may be uncharacteristic of the Packers, but this is a championship-caliber move and if Mack doesn't come to Green Bay, he likely goes to a contending rival.
Mark Oldacres, Cheesehead TV – CB Paulson Adebo, New Orleans Saints
The free agent I would most like to see the Packers sign is Paulson Adebo. The former Saints cornerback enjoyed an excellent 2023, before a broken femur wiped out most of his 2024 season. He is just 25 years old and likely would not be getting out of New Orleans if not for their salary cap issues. In a free agent market where a lot of funny money will be handed out, Green Bay could find value in Adebo and secure the prime years of his career, as they have done effectively in free agency in recent years.
Matt Ramage, The Matt Ramage Show – LB Dre Greenlaw, San Francisco 49ers
I like Dre Greenlaw. A veteran linebacker in the middle, bringing some much-needed coverage skills to our lineup and opening up all sorts of possibilities with Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper. And let's be real, playing with Fred Warner has probably taught Greenlaw a thing or two.
