Mixed updates leave the Packers weighing optimism and concern ahead of the Bears matchup
Green Bay’s inactive list has both positive and negative updates for Saturday night.
The Green Bay Packers have mixed feelings ahead of the Chicago Bears game on Saturday night, a decisive matchup in the NFC North race. As expected, right tackle Zach Tom and safety Evan Williams are officially inactive, but wide receiver Christian Watson is healthy enough to play. Running back Josh Jacobs, a real gametime decision, is also active and will play through his knee injury.
Packers inactives
- S Evan Williams
- T Zach Tom
- DT Quinton Bohanna
- TE Josh Whyle
- DT Nazir Stackhouse
The good
Wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a chest/shoulder injury against the Denver Broncos last Sunday. He went to the hospital to check his ribs, but Watson didn’t have any structural issues. It was just a matter of pain tolerance and functionality, and the offensive weapon passed both tests practicing throughout the week.
Running back Josh Jacobs has been dealing with a knee injury for more than a month, since the New York Giants game. The issue got worse in each of the past two games, though, and Jacobs wasn’t even able to practice this week ahead of the Bears game. Jacobs pushed to play and was a real gametime decision, but ultimately the Packers will give him a chance to be on the field.
Wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (ankle), running back Chris Brooks (chest), edge defender Kingsley Enagbare (illness), and tackle Darian Kinnard (neck), who were listed as questionable too, are all active.
The bad
Right tackle Zach Tom was already handling a back issue for the past few weeks, but he was able to play through it. However, Tom left the Broncos game early with a knee injury. He didn’t practice throughout the week and will be inactive on Saturday.
Safety Evan Williams suffered a knee injury on the same play Micah Parsons tore his ACL. Williams’ injury isn’t as serious, but the sprain will make him miss at least one game.
Among edge defenders who weren’t on the 53-man roster, Brenton Cox Jr. was activated on Friday and will play, while Collin Oliver stayed on the physically unable to perform list.
