Packers reliable weapon shares a blunt reality about his NFL future that puts his next chapter into focus
Romeo Doubs knows his future in the NFL might be out of Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers have some tough decisions to make. In the salary cap era, you can’t keep everyone, and wide receiver Romeo Doubs knows his future may very well be elsewhere. Over the past 10 months, not only did the team draft Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, but it also extended Christian Watson.
With a crowded room that also has Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, Doubs admitted a harsh truth about his future in the NFL.
“I will leave that unknown,” Doubs said on the “Up and Adams Show” when asked if he would stay in Green Bay. “I would love to be a Green Bay Packer, but I’m aware of this business. I understand how things go. I’ll keep it short.”
Reliable connection with Jordan Love
For the first time in his NFL career, Romeo Doubs led the Packers in receiving yards both in the regular season (724) and in the postseason (124). A fourth-round pick back in 2022, Doubs is now slated to hit free agency.
Spotrac projects that Doubs could get a four-year, $48 million contract ($12 million per season). And based on how the free agent market works, don’t be surprised if that number is higher by March.
Romeo Doubs has been an important piece because of his connection with quarterback Jordan Love. Throughout his four seasons with the Packers — including the first one with Aaron Rodgers still at quarterback — Doubs had 174 receptions for 2,050 receiving yards, and 19 total touchdowns.
At wide receiver, the Packers have eight players under contract for 2026: Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, Dontayvion Wicks, Jakobie Keeney-James, Isaiah Neyor, and Will Sheppard.
The Packers prioritized Watson because of his unique skill set, and that proved to be a wise decision considering how effectively he returned from his ACL injury. Doubs is a solid player, but probably with a more easily replicable playing style. With a tight cap situation, the Packers will likely see Doubs moving on, even if he has been a useful part of the offense throughout his first four years in the league.
