The Houston Texans are coming off a tough loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 7. But they have already put that in the rearview mirror as they look ahead to their Week 8 matchup with their AFC South rivals, the Indianapolis Colts.
Well, that was their plan anyway, but the NFL had to send a big reminder about the team's loss to Texans linebacker Neville Hewitt.
The NFL has fined Hewitt for a late hit that the league has ruled as "Unnecessary Roughness." The officiating crew during the game also saw it that way and threw a flag on the play. Hewitt's illegal hit can be seen below.
If we are being honest, Hewitt's tackle method probably would have got him fined, no matter if the league ruled it a "late hit." Suplexing a ball carrier to execute a tackle typically isn't going to be seen in a positive light. The NFL handed out 23 for Week 7, 15 of which were due to "Unnecessary Roughness." The $11,255.00 fine is tied for the fifth-highest fine given out by the league this week.
Hewitt was filling in as a starter for the Texans' defense last week in place of Henry To'oTo'o, who missed the game with a concussion. In the game, he recorded a team-high nine total tackles and an interception.
