The Indianapolis Colts believed this would be one of the most competitive training camps and preseasons they’ve had throughout their roster in a long time. It’s certainly been an intriguing offseason to watch, with players battling for starting spots and those competing to make the roster. Now, NFL cut-down day is on the horizon, as the Colts and the rest of the NFL are tasked with cutting down their roster from 90 to 53 by the league’s deadline on Tuesday, August 26, at 4 p.m. EST.

A few positions on the Colts roster that stand out as positions that will involve some tough decisions to cut down would be TE, CB, OL, and DL. Is this the end of the line for players who have spent multiple years with the team, like Jelani Woods and Wesley French? Will UDFAs like Trey Washington and Jonathan Edwards overcome the odds stacked against them to earn a roster spot? Both of these questions and more will be answered when the Colts unveil their initial 53-man roster. Follow along as the team makes some very tough decisions on their road down to 53 players with our live Colts cut-down tracker. You’ll find every Colts roster move as they happen below, separated into players who will be subject to waivers and those being released.

The two most common ways players will be removed from NFL team rosters over the next few days are “released” and “waived.” You may wonder what the difference between the two is. Players who have accrued at least four seasons in the NFL are not subject to the waiver wire and immediately become free agents by being released. In contrast, players who have yet to accrue four seasons will have to go through the league’s waiver wire, where teams can claim them on the contract they signed with their previous team. Seasons are accrued in the NFL by being a “full pay status” player for six or more games during a season. Players can accrue games throughout a season if they are placed on the IR, the PUP list, or by being a member of a team’s 53-man roster, whether they are active or inactive on game day.
