The Indianapolis Colts drafted WR Adonai Mitchell with the 52nd pick in the 2nd round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
He entered training camp knowing he would be competing with Alec Pierce for the team's final starting outside wide receiver job. While we don't know who won that job yet, the rookie WR has impressed many inside the organization with what he has shown the team on and off the field.
With the preseason in the books, I decided to share my thoughts on the type of rookie season Mitchell could have.
Adonai Mitchell Rookie Predictions:
Prediction: He finishes the year with more snaps than Alec Pierce
As I said above, we aren't quite sure who the day-one starter will be between Mitchell and Pierce. But after watching both throughout training camp, I believe Mitchell possesses the more diverse skill set of the two WRs. And as we've seen since Josh Downs' injury, they are willing to play him in the slot to keep him on the field. So, as long as he stays healthy, I believe Mitchell will end the year with at least the third most offensive snaps in the team's WR room.
Prediction: He finishes with at least 700 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns
My stat prediction for Mitchell is that he will end the year with over 700 receiving yards and at least four touchdowns. His ability as a deep threat and overall route running will make him a reliable target for second-year QB Anthony Richardson. And I think he could become one of his favorite targets early in his career. These numbers would have him in some elite company in the Colts' record books. He would join the likes of Bill Brooks, T.Y. Hilton, Marvin Harrison, Andre Rison, Josh Downs, and John Mackey to have at least 700 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season.
