The Indianapolis Colts made the controversial decision to bench their 2023 first-round pick. Many in the NFL questioned his effort during this time.
In Week 11, though, he put up his best performance as a pro and helped lead the Colts to a big win over the New York Jets. And he's now being recognized for the very thing many questioned during his benching: his effort.
Anthony Richardson wins Good Morning Football's "Angry Run" Scepter
Good Morning Football's host Kyle Brandt rewards the player who had the most angry run of the previous NFL slate every week. For Week 11, the winner is none other than Anthony Richardson.
Richardson scored two rushing touchdowns in Week 11, and on both, he laid the boom on a Jets defender. One of which, I'm sure, was his favorite because it was the game-winner against the Jets. But that one isn't the one that won him the scepter; it was his angry run in which he sent Jets DB Jalen Mills into the turf on his way into the endzone.
Richardson was one of four nominees for the award this week. Joining Richardson were two RBs and a fellow QB, James Cook (Buffalo Bills), Josh Jacobs (Green Bay Packers), and Josh Allen (Bills).
Richardson's return to the starting lineup in Week 11 couldn't have gone better for the young QB. He left no doubt on the field that he gives the Colts the best chance to win games. He also showed his teammates and the world that he was willing to do whatever was necessary to help his team win the game. He will need to build off this performance and continue to improve. But this game was a giant step in the right direction, and I hope he can see the angry scepter award he will be receiving as a reminder of the week everything began to click for the Colts QB.
